For large open-plan layouts, steel posts or a goalpost frame may be required to safely support the floors and walls above. We provide structural engineering for end-terrace and semi-detached rear extensions, including full-width openings, open-plan kitchen extensions and pitched or flat roofs. These properties have a party wall on one side and an external flank wall on the other, requiring careful consideration of support positions and lateral stability. We design steel beams, supporting posts, goalpost frames, roof members and foundations to suit the proposed layout.

Detached house loft conversion

We provide structural design for detached house rear extensions, including large open-plan layouts, full-width glazed openings and single or double-storey extensions. Detached properties can involve wider structural spans and fewer suitable internal supports, potentially requiring larger steel beams, concealed posts, goalpost frames or portal frames. Foundation design considers soil bearing capacity, nearby drainage and the influence of trees and other vegetation to determine safe foundation type, sizes and depths.
